Lions are people who have made the commitment to give something of themselves back to the community. In addition to our international goal to treat, cure and eliminate blindness in the world, we initiate and support many other community activities throughout Mount Holly and the surrounding region.

Fighting for Sight
In 1925, Helen Keller addressed the Lions at their National Convention, challenging them to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." Since that time, service to the blind and visually impaired has become one of the associations most significant activities. Campaign SIghtFirst, a global blindness prevention program, has been the Lions spearhead effort to eliminate visual problems throughout the world.

Seeking a Cure for Lou Gehrig's Disease
The Mount Holly Lions are especially proud or their support for the search for a cure to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), commonly called Lou Gehrig's Disease. Our club became painfully aware of the ravages of this crippling disease when it effected Fred Kanzler, a long-time Lion member, in 1991.
Partnering with Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Curt Shilling and his wife Shonda through the Phillies Charities and "Curt's Pitch for ALS", the Lions have raised much needed funds and increased community awareness and understanding of this disease.
ALS remains a mystery. We don't know why one gets it, how one gets it, or how long someone will live once they get it. Despite our best efforts, ALS remains a baffling, mysterious disease that can effect anyone at any time. The Mount Holly Lions invite you to join us in ending once and for all the sadness of Lou Gehrig's Disease. To find out more, visit us as our guest at one of our regular meetings, or click here.
