COUNTY READING TUTORS TO RAISE FUNDS WITH
"1997 SCRABBLE SCRAMBLE"

Word games are often used to help adults learn to read, but this fall one particular word game, Scrabble, will be used to help raise money for a Burlington County literacy program. Literacy Volunteers of America in Burlington County (LVABC) will hold its "1997 Fall Scrabble Scramble" on Saturday, November 8, 1887 at the Junior High Building of the Special Services School on Woodlane Road in Westampton. This year's Scrabble fund-raiser will be a recreational event, consisting of three hours of round-robin play, with an emphasis on fun and a spirit of competition.

LVABC trains volunteers to be tutors and matches tutors with adult students who need help with reading and writing skills. The tutoring services are always free. Therefore, the county affiliate of the Literacy Volunteers of America depends on donations, grants, and fund-raisers such as the Scrabble Scramble to support their efforts.

The registration fee for an individual will be $20.00, and for a pair $35.00. Registration includes a continental breakfast, and there is a 10% discount for LVA members. Companies from the county have been invited to become corporate sponsors and to send teams to compete with other local company teams. The entry fee for a corporate 4-person team is $70.00.

This year's Scrabble Scramble will start with registration at the school at 8:00 AM. Play will begin promptly at 9:00 AM and will end at 12:30 PM. Prizes will be awarded, and individuals and teams registering and paying before October 24 will receive LVA T-shirts. Those wishing to register ahead of time should mail check or money order to:
